RKS Student Katrina Drudge, Marathon Runner
May 25, 2011
The miracle is not in finishing a marathon. The miracle is in having the courage to start. The RKS family would like to congratulate one of our very own Black Belts, Katrina Drudge, on her impressive 37th place finish in the Toronto Goodlife Marathon on May 15th, 2011.
After many months of intense dedication, and over 400 miles of hard solitary training in snow, sleet, wind and rain, Katrina crossed the 42.2 kilometer finish line on an unseasonably cold, wet, and brutally punishing day with the unwavering spirit and determination that she brings to everything she does in life.
Katrina’s accomplishment reminds us that excellence is often achieved when you care more than others think is wise; risk more than others think is safe; dream more than others think is practical; and expect more than others think is possible. Way to go Katrina; don’t ever stop, and never surrender! That’s what CANI is all about.

Another Victory for Jason Saggo
May 25, 2011
Team RKS and LKS would like to congratulate Jason Saggo on his recent victory at MMA Live 1 in London Ontario. Jason Saggo now holds a perfect record of 5 -0 with all wins coming by way of Submission. Here is a replay:
Rd1: Both fighters come out popping the jab, then a leg kick off, Saggo wins. Saggo feints a jab and drives Boyle into the cage with a double leg attempt. Saggo can’t finish the double so he trades it in for a single and dumps Boyle to the mat. Boyle bounces up quickly but gives up his back which Saggo eagerly takes. Boyle is doing a great job fighting off the choke, making Saggo really work hard to keep position. Boyle fully escapes just as the horn sounds.
Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Saggo
Rd2: Boyle throws a leg kick which is thrown aside by Saggo. Saggo changes levels and dives for the double leg but again Boyle fights it off. Boyle feints a two punch combo, shoots in and takes Saggo to the canvas. Saggo is making great use of the rubber guard to tie Boyle up. Boyle escapes and elects to stand it back up. Again Saggo bulllies Boyle into the cage and shoots the double. The double doesn’t work but Saggo drags Boyle to the ground. Saggo jumps the back and sinks in his hooks but is in a bad position against the cage. Saggo regroups and traps an arm but again the cage is in the way. Just as the horn sounds Saggo had transitioned to a tight triangle.
Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Saggo
Rd3: Saggo comes forward with a flurry but Boyle makes him pay with a vicious knee. Saggo brings the fight to mat with a nice single leg trip. Again Saggo takes his back but this time figure fours the body. It takes 3 grip changes but Saggo is finally able to coax the tap.
Saggo submits Boyle via Rear Naked Choke @ 2:18 of Rd3

Toronto Raptor Jose Calderon stopped by Humberview Secondary School to take in some action on the courts during a Caledon Cougars Basketball tournament on April 9. Outside in the parking lot, he signed autographs for those taking part in the Ford Canada ‘Drive One 4 UR Community’ challenge where Ford donated $20 to the Caledon Cougars for every test drive of a Ford or Lincoln vehicle. According to Fines Ford General Manager Carlos Martins, the challenge raised approximately $1,700 for the local sports club. Three of the kids featured in the photo, Mathias Ecclestone and Julien and Madeline Fantin, are members of RKS Bolton who got a chance to meet with Toronto Raptor Jose Calderone.

RGDA and RKS would like to congratulate Jason Saggo on his victory this past weekend at Ontario’s first sanctioned MMA Event at Casino Rama in Orillia. Jason Saggo trains under Prof. Paul Abel and the RGDA Team in Bolton. Here is a run down on how the fight went.
Jason Saggo vs. Taylor Solomon
Round 1: Solomon stings Saggo early with a jab. Solomon stalking Saggo around the ring lands and uppercut but Saggo body locks and attempts to drag Solomon down. Solomon defends well and Saggo eats a knee. Solomon breaks free and chases Saggo around the ring throwing like crazy. Saggo ducks under, grabs the double and puts Solomon on his back. Saggo passes to mount from side control and starts to rain down some GnP. Solomon uses the fence to push off and reverse Saggo to his feet only to be dragged back down to the mat again by Saggo. Saggo lands in half guard and attempts to pass but Solomon escapes back to his feet. Saggo attempts a brief standing guillotine but Solomon escapes. Both fighters on their feet exchanging head kicks, Solomon sees the opening and returns the favor by putting Saggo on his back. The round ends before Solomon can initiate an offense.
TopMMAnews scores the round 10-9 Saggo.
Round 2: Saggo throws a nice kick to Solomon’s midsection. Saggo connects with an overhand and takes Solomon back down to the mat. Solomon is quick and is right back to his feet but Saggo catches him off balance and returns him to the canvas. Saggo passes to mount but can’t land any shots because Solomon is doing a great job covering up. Saggo, bored of trying to throw through Solomon’s arms, decides instead to take one home with him and transitions to an arm bar. Solomon looks for an escape can’t find one and taps.
Saggo submits Solomon via Arm Bar @ 3:25 of Round 2.
