RKS Student Achievement – William Hurst

We’re proud to share with all of our RKS students and families this story about one of own Orange Belt students, William Hurst. Thanks to his mother, Heather, for sharing the following story:

When William was born 8 years ago he came a month early to make his entrance on Mother’s Day. Appropriately, he’s always been a gift with a generous heart. His generosity has been demonstrated this past Mother’s Day when he donated his hair to the Angel Hair Foundation in Mississauga.

Two years ago, William noticed a boy with long hair and questioned why a boy would have long hair. When he learned that that child was growing his hair to donate for wigs for children with cancer, William decided he too wanted to grow his hair. So for two years he brushed his tangled hair every morning and night, and politely corrected the mistaken perceptions that he was a girl. It was a strengthening experience in being able to speak up for himself.

With humble pride, William spent his birthday picking up $376.60 of collected donations from his local community, and hand delivering the money with 10 locks of his hair. Each braid was between 10 and 12 inches long, and will be used to create a wig for a child who has lost their hair due to medical conditions, burns, or cancer. Angel Hair is a signature program of A Child’s Voice Foundation and provides wigs, and related services, for children from disadvantaged families at no cost. This one of a kind program is available to children throughout Canada.

Thank-you for your interest and support of good deeds!

Way to go William!
