SHOGUN is coming to RKS on May 12th! Spaces for the Mauricio “Shogun” Rua seminar are limited and will be reserved on a first come, first served, basis. To reserve your form, return this registration form along with payment to any of Robinson’s Karate or Lewis’ Karate Schools no later than May 8, 2010. You can also pick up a registration form at your school.

Black Belt Spectacular – May 2010!

It’s time to celebrate the achievements and hard work of our many Black Belt candidates. Join us at the Newmarket Theatre on Sunday, May 2nd, 1:00pm for a very special show.
This year we are proud to announce some terrific martial arts exhibitions, including a breaking demonstration with boards and bats by Hanshi Moti Horenstein!
(Please note: family members of candidates must purchase tickets. Two tickets per candidate will be reserved until April 24th, at which point any remaining candidate tickets will be released to the general audience. We will not put any tickets on hold other than the reserved candidate seating due to demand.)
Where to get tickets: in person at your home school, or by phone with a credit card at any of the four school locations. The cost is only $25 per ticket.

RKS Students Volunteering Abroad

We volunteered to travel to Guatemala with 14 other people from Ontario to build a house for a family with 7 children and to hold medical clinics. We were in the town of El Tejar about an hour west of Guatemala City. The medical team, which consisted of 3 doctors and 2 nurses and various willing helpers, treated over 800 patients, and the build team, of which Betty and I were members, of built a 3 room 17 x 20 house and put up security fencing and gates around the property.
While we were there, the entire group also cooked dinner and served it to the local “Bombero’s,” or volunteer paramedic/firefighters, and donated a bunch of medical equipment to them that we carried down from Canada. They actually have to beg on the street corners to put gas in the ambulances. And we did a food distribution where we gave away a months worth of staple foods (rice, beans, sugar, pasta, oil, etc) to 200 families. It was a very humbling experience to see how people live with such extreme poverty. We all take luxuries, like fresh water, clean food, and personal security, for granted here. Hopefully we have helped to give a bit of hope to all the families and lives that we touched in the process.
