Grandmaster’s Favorites: Choke from the Mount

This month we have selected another of Grandmaster Helio Gracie’s Favorite Jiu-Jitsu techniques from the book, Gracie Submission Essentials, available for purchase in the Pro Shop at RKS and LKS.
From the book, p. 40: “Grandmaster believed very strongly that the basic position are the keys to everything…we go and try more advanced and complicated options…but at the end…we come back to the simple basic position.”
“In a street fight or a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu match, the mount is one of the best positions to be in…the keys to successfully applying the choke from the mount are, first, to maintain the position, and second, to apply and maintain the proper choking pressure.”
